Delete your account

You can delete your Witoh account at any time, and you do not have to give a reason. Here is exactly how, what it removes, and what it does not.

Deleting your account in the app

This is the fastest route, and the one to use if you can still sign in.

  1. Open Witoh and go to your profile.
  2. Open Settings.
  3. Go to Account.
  4. Choose Delete account, and confirm.

You will be asked to confirm that it is you before the request goes through. Once confirmed, the account stops being usable and deletion begins.

Menu names can change between app versions. If you cannot find the option where this describes, use the route below and we will do it for you.

If you cannot get into the app

Lost the phone number on the account, uninstalled the app, or locked out for another reason? Write to us and we will handle it:

  • Email support@witohapp.com with the subject Account deletion request.
  • Include your Witoh username, and the phone number or email address the account was created with.

We have to be certain that the account is yours before we delete it — an account deletion cannot be undone, and doing it on the wrong person’s word would be worse than the delay. Expect us to ask a question or two to confirm.

What deletion removes

Deleting your account removes or de-identifies the information tied to it, including:

  • your profile — display name, username, photo and any other profile details;
  • the posts, photos, videos and comments you created;
  • your reactions, saved items and activity history;
  • the contact details used to sign in.

Your account stops being visible to other people on Witoh, and it cannot be signed into again.

What may remain, and why

Some things survive deletion. We would rather say so here than let you discover it afterwards:

  • Content other people hold. If you shared something with a group, the people in that group may still have their copy — in the same way a message you sent does not vanish from someone else’s phone.
  • Records we are required to keep. Where a law obliges us to retain something for a period, we keep it for that period and no longer.
  • Safety and abuse records. Limited information may be retained where it is needed to prevent someone returning to repeat serious harm, or to resolve a dispute.
  • Backups. Deleted data can persist in routine backups for a short while before those backups cycle out. It is not restored to the service.

We do not publish a fixed number of days here, because it differs by category and we would rather leave it blank than state a figure we cannot stand behind. The general approach is described in the Privacy Policy.

If you do not want to delete everything

Deletion is permanent. Depending on what is bothering you, something smaller may do:

  • Delete individual posts rather than the whole account.
  • Turn notifications off, in the app or in your device settings.
  • Remove or edit profile details you no longer want visible.
  • Report or block someone who is the reason you are here — see the Community Guidelines.

Getting help with a deletion

If a deletion has not happened, or you have a question about what was removed, write to support@witohapp.com and reference the original request. More general help is on the support page.

Deletion is permanent. Once an account has been deleted we cannot restore it, its content, or its username.
